Pamper Yourself Activity & Handout

Reactions:
Here's an enrichment activity, YW activity (you'll have to adjust some to make it a smaller endeavor for the YW) that I am really wanting right now, what woman doesn't want a massage, makeover, and women's company?
Decorate the gym with lots of "girlie" things or you could decorate with a SPA motif (bamboo, rocks, water fountains). Let each sister pic which station they want to start at then rotate through whichever they want.
Station ideas:
Nails(Manicure/Pedicure)
Waxing
Massage (see below)
Make-up tips or tricks
Skin Care
Hair Care
For Refreshments you could serve veggie trays, chocolate goodnesses (you could do a chocolate fountain and set out strawberries, raspberries, pretzel, etc), fruit trays, flavored sparkling water (Wal-mart). Pick foods that really would spoil yourself and the sisters.
For the massage if you live in the northern part of Utah, United States (probably no further than Salt Lake), my sister is a massage therapist and would be willing to teach how to do hand massages or facial massages. Email me if that interests you and I'll talk with her and get back with you.
Here's a handout for you to invite the sisters.

A Sure Foundation

Reactions:

"The Savior's parable of the wise man who built his house upon a rock has power precisely because it illustrates that life's challenges befell the wise man too. The rains fell, the winds blew, the floods rose up. Yet he survived it all because he had built upon a sure foundation and, crucially, he stayed there when the storm came." Elder David S. Baxter

Saving the Bees

Reactions:

As I finished washing the dishes, I glanced out the window and saw my eight-year-old brother dangling a long pole in the swimming pool. His tangled brown hair hung in his eyes, and his clothes were splashed with water. He always managed to avoid helping with the chores, and today was no different. I watched as he carefully steadied the pole in the water, lifted it, and tapped it on the concrete deck.
"What's he doing?" I wondered. I decided to go outside and see what time-wasting activity had kept him from helping me.
"What are you doing, Ben?" I asked as I walked over to where he stood.
"Saving bees," he replied. I could now see that each time he steadied the pole, it was beneath a bee. He then lifted the bee out of the water and placed it on the warm concrete to let the bee dry its wings and fly away.
"But some of them won't hold on," he continued. "I try to save them, but they just keep trying to swim and won't grab the pole." "Great," I thought. "One less bee to sting me." I began walking back toward the house, determined to waste no more of my time.
Then Ben spoke again,"It's like Jesus," he said.
I stopped and walked back to my little brother. "What do you mean?" I asked, confused by that comparison.
"I try to save the bees from drowning, but they have to choose to grab the pole. I can't force them," he explained. "And that's like Jesus and us. He wants to save us, but we have to choose to follow Him and accept the Atonement. He can't force us." And with that simple analogy, Ben went back to saving the bees.
As I thought about what he said, I realized how much I was like one of those drowning bees. When I faced a struggle in my life, I was prone to battle it out alone, convinced I was strong enough to make it. Trusting the Savior enough to stop 'treading water' was difficult. But as I watched Ben patiently pulling each bee out of the water, I began to understand how willing the Savior is to help me. I gave Ben a hug and returned to the house, letting him continue his work. And I promised myself the next time I saw a pole coming toward me, I would have the faith to grab on tight and let the Savior lift me up.

Be Still Wordart

Reactions:
I fell in love with this phrase when I heard the Be Still part and remembered the scripture for it. It comforts me to know that when I listen carefully, and not let the world in for just a tiny moment, my Father in Heaven and my Savior are watching over me, loving me, and guiding me ALWAYS. I hope you enjoy this wordart as much as I love the phrase. May God bless you and your family!

Blessings of the Priesthood (YW Man 2, #10)

Reactions:
YW Manual 2, Lesson 10
WOW what an awesome lesson! I have to say the most moving part is the story by the presiding bishop. I decided to count the number of times I have had blessings in my life and had a life changing experience. Two have stuck out in my mind, I am so thankful for my dad and grandfather when I was only 11, and for a couple of brothers in a singles's ward who left a movie date to give me a blessing when a parasite rampaged me.
You will find questions that are found in the lesson that you can just print off below the handout (set printer margins to zero)

Lesson Outline Idea:
After I read the lesson, this question really stuck out because it's true! I also think that this would get the girls mind going if it's put up at the beginning of the lesson.

Seven Wonders of the World

Reactions:
A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present "Seven Wonders of the World". Though there wer some disagreements, the following received the most votes.
1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall
While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student had not finished. She asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there are so many!" The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have and maybe, we can help." The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:
1. To See
2. To Hear
3. To Touch
4. To Taste
5. To Feel
6. To Laugh
7. To Love
The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and we take for granted are truly wonderous! A gentle reminder that the most precious things in life cannot be built by hand or bought by man.

Letter in the Mailbox & A Wordart

Reactions:
WHAT IF YOU GOT A LETTER IN YOUR MAILBOX FROM......
Ruth went to her mailbox and there was only one letter. She picked it up and looked at it before opening, but then she looked at the envelope again. There was no stamp, no postmark, only her name and address. She read the letter:
Dear Ruth:
I'm going to be in your neighborhood Saturday afternoon and I'd like to stop by for a visit.
Love always,
Jesus

Her hands were shaking as she placed the letter on the table. "Why would the Lord want to visit me? I'm nobody special. I don't have anything to offer." With that thought, Ruth remembered her empty kitchen cabinets. "Oh my goodness, I really don't have anything to offer. I'll have to run down to the store and buy something for dinner." She reached for her purse and counted out its contents. Five dollars and forty cents. "Well, I can get some bread and cold cuts, at least." She threw on her coat and hurried out the door.
A loaf of french bread, a half pound of sliced turkey, and a carton of milk... leaving Ruth with a grand total of twelve cents to last her until Monday. Nonetheless, she felt good as she headed hom, her meager offerings tucked under her arm.
"Hey lady, can you help us, lady?"
Ruth had been so absorbed in her dinner plans, she hadn't even noticed two figures huddled in the alley, a man and a woman, both of them dressed in little more than rags.
"Look lady, I ain't got a job, ya know, and my wife and I have been living out here on the street, and well, now it's getting cold and we're getting kinda hungry and well, if you could help us, lady, we'd really appreciate it."
Ruth looked at them both. They were dirty, they smelled bad and frankly she was sure they could get some kind of work if they really wanted to. "Sir, I'd like to help you, but I'm a poor woman myself. All I have is a few cold cuts and some bread. I'm having an important guest for dinner tonight and I was planning on serving that to Him."
"Yeah, well, okay lady, I understand. Thanks anyway." The man put his arm around the woman's shoulders, turned and headed back into the alley.
As she watched them leave, Ruth felt a familiar twinge in her heart. "Sir, wait!" The couple stopped and turned as she ran down the alley after them. "Look, why don't you take this food, I'll figure something else to serve my guest." She handed the man her grocery bag.
"Thank you lady. Thank you very much!"
"Yes, thank you!" It was the man's wife, and Ruth could see now that she was shivering.
"You know, I've got another coat at home. Here, why don't you take this one." Ruth unbuttoned her jacket and slipped it over the woman's shoulders. Then smiling, she turned and walked back to the street..without her coat and with nothing to serve her guest.
"Thank you lady! Thank you very much!"
Ruth was chilled by the time she reached her front door, and worried too. The Lord was coming to visit and she didn't have anything to offer Him. She fumbled through her purse for the door key. But as she did, she noticed another envelope in her mailbox. "That's odd. The mailman doesn't usually come twice in one day."
She took the envelope out of the box and opened it.
Dear Ruth,
It was so good to see you again. Thank you for the lovely meal. And thank you too for the beautiful coat.
Love always,
Jesus

The air was still cold, but even without her coat, Ruth no longer noticed.

Baptism Ideas and Wordart

Reactions:
I came across this idea a LONG time ago when I was teaching Primary and had the 7 year olds, so I have no idea where I got it from, but I made handouts for it (below) so here's the idea. For those 7 year olds getting ready to be baptized the following year you can have a Baptismal Fireside (not so much a talking and the kids listen, but ask and answer questions about the importance/covenants/what's going to happen kind of thing). For a little handout/treat at the end, you can hand out socks or towels (both of which are white - crews for boy socks, lacy top socks for girls) I did the socks, less expensive than the towels. And attached to either a little handout. (download below)
I also made a couple Wordarts, Baptism wording is hard to find, so I made you some.
Now everything but the Wordart is a separate download, so snag what you need and leave some love. Email if you have any questions!

And this is what the poem reads:
When you get what you want in your struggle for gain
and the world makes you queen for a day,
just go to the mirror and look at yourself
and see what that gal has to say.
It isn't your father or mother or friend,
whose judgement upon you must pass.
The one whose verdict counts most in your life
is the one staring back in the glass.
She's the one you must satisfy beyong all the rest,
for she's with you right up to the end;
And you have passed your most difficult test
if the one in the glass is your friend!
You may be one who got a good break --
then say I'm a wonderful gal;
but the one in the glass says you're only a fake;
if yo ucan't call that person your pal.
You may fool the world down your pathway of years,
and get pats on the back as you pass;
but your final reward will be heartaches and tears
if you cheated the girl in the glass.

YW Inspiration - Apples

Reactions:
Here's is the first of who knows how many of my Young Woman Inspirational kit. This quote, is one of my favorites, it helped me while I was in school, not dating, thinking that I was no good, come to find that my prince charming was still there. It's the Lord's timing and not mine. I hope that this will help or inspire both you and your daughter/granddaughter/any other young woman in your life who may be struggling with their individual worth. The download is a 12x12, please email me if you want a smaller size :)
DOWNLOAD HERE

** Look for other quotes and stories that helped me in my youth as well as those I find along the way!
http://latterdaychatter.blogspot.com/2010/02/yw-inspiration-mirror.html
This is what the quote says:
“Girls are like apples...the best ones are at the top of the trees. The boys don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples that are on the ground that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples at the top think there is something wrong with them, when, in reality, they are amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along, the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree...”

Date Night

Reactions:
Enrichment Activity:
Have a night where sister share inexpensive and memorable ideas for dates with their hubbies. You can talk about how regular dates will help a marriage, ideas to find babysitters, ideas for table conversation starters (some silence can be great, but talking over dinner other than about the kids is always refreshing - especially when you don't have drool, spaghetti sauce, or any other food item on your clothing), or make some invitations to hide around the house for your hubby for the anticipation.

What are some of your ideas? Please go to Latter-day Chatter group on Facebook (link on your right side) to post your comment. Thanks for your ideas!

Conversation Starters (besides how was your day at work)

1. Start talking about a book or magazine you've been reading, and ask hubby for his opinion, make the question open ended so that they can't just say yes or no.

2. Plan a family vacation or a dream vacation. What would you do? Where would you go?

3. If you could travel across the world what transporation would you pick?

4. What would the Little Old Lady in the Shoe do with her so many children? (it doesn't have to be serious, this is your best friend your talking to :) They'll love you no matter the question.

Here's some invitations to hide in/on your hubby's coat/bag/pillow/dashboard. Just write on the back on the info, date/time/activity. Click on preview to download (both are 3x5):

IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS FOR THIS ACTIVITY PLEASE COMMENT OR EMAIL ME. THANKS!
